Thailand's top division: 16 clubs, 30 matches each, in a season that runs from around August to April or May.
What the Thai League is
Thai League 1 is the top professional division in Thailand. It was introduced in 1996 by the Football Association of Thailand as the Thailand Soccer League and has changed name several times since — older fans may still know it as the Thai Premier League — with the Thai League 1 name in use since 2017.
It began with ten to twelve clubs and expanded to sixteen in 2007, which has remained the standard size. It sits on top of Thai League 2, with promotion and relegation between the two, so clubs from the lower tiers have a genuine route up.
Much of its character comes from local identity. Many clubs represent a province or city, with their own home ground and a loyal following, so a home match is a local event as much as a fixture — and meetings between clubs from the same region tend to carry an extra edge.
Format and how the table is decided
Sixteen clubs play each other home and away, 30 matches each. Three points for a win, one for a draw. There are no groups and no title play-off: the club with the most points after 30 matches is champion.
The notable difference from the Premier League is the end-of-season tiebreaker. The Thai League looks at the head-to-head record between the tied clubs first — points, then goal difference in those meetings — before overall figures. During the season the table is usually ordered on goal difference in the meantime.
The bottom three are relegated to Thai League 2, with three promoted in their place, so the fight at the bottom matters as much as the title race, especially over the final few rounds.
The season calendar and the domestic cups
The league used to follow the calendar year. The 2020 season was suspended because of COVID-19 and only finished in 2021, and since then it has run across two years — starting around August and ending in April or May, much like the European leagues.
Beyond the league, Thai clubs contest two main domestic cups: the Thai FA Cup, open to clubs from several levels of the game, and the Thai League Cup. Both are knockout competitions, so lower-division sides knocking out bigger clubs is a regular sight.
Because matches are played in Thailand's own time zone (UTC+7), kick-off times on this page need no conversion for Thai readers; readers elsewhere see them in their own zone.
The route into Asian and ASEAN competition
The leading clubs earn places in the Asian Football Confederation's club competitions, restructured from 2024-25: the AFC Champions League Elite at the top and the AFC Champions League Two below it. How many places the league receives, and at which stage, depends on Thailand's standing in Asia, so it can change from season to season.
Thai clubs also take part in the ASEAN club championship, which brings them up against sides from Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of the region — another competition Thai supporters follow closely.
Following the Thai League on Score24hr
The tabs above separate fixtures, results and the table, with every kick-off shown in Thai time.
An official Thai League table is not always available from our data provider. When the table you see has been computed from results, the page says so. Because the league breaks end-of-season ties on head-to-head record first, clubs level on points may appear in a different order from the official standings.
While matches are in progress the live scores page updates the score on its own, and opening any match shows that game in detail.
